Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was born on 27 July 1960. He is 58 years old.

He was born on 27 July 1960 in Mumbai, Maharashtra to Balasaheb Thackeray and Meena Thackeray.


He studied at Balmohan Vidyamandir School, Mumbai. He graduated from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai.

He married Rashmi Thackeray and couple has two sons, Aditya and Tejas.

While elder son Aditya is the president of the Yuva Sena, younger son Tejas is believed to be studying in a college in Buffalo City of New York State.

Tejas has maintained a very low profile unlike father and elder brother. On 16 July 2012 his family admitted him to Lilavati Hospital after he reported chest pain.

Soon he underwent an angioplasty and successfully removed all the three blockages in his arteries.

Uddhav Thackeray Biography

His party won the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation election in 2002 under his guidance. Thereafter, his father appointed him as the party working president in January 2003.

Two years later his father appointed him Chief of the Shiv Sena in 2004. Soon a disagreement with his cousin Raj Thackeray resulted in the formation (by his cousin) of an opposing political party, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

He is keen in photography. Later he exhibited his collection of aerial shots of various forts of Maharashtra at the Jehangir Art Gallery in 2004.

He has also published photo-books Maharashtra Desh (2010) and Pahava Vitthal (2011), capturing various aspects of Maharashtra and the varkaris during Pandharpur Yatra respectively in the two books.

After the death of Bal Thackeray on 17 November 2012, he became the leader of the party but refused to take the title “Shiv Sena Pramukh” (Shiv Sena Supremo).

On 19 October 2015, Shiv Sena activists attacked and vandalised the office of BCCI to stop a meeting between PCB and BCCI officials.

In 2015 Shiv Sena announced 10,000 rupees help to each drought-affected farmer of Marathwada region.

He belongs to Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu family.
