Nitin Gadkari Information

Nitin Gadkari was born in 27 May 1957 in Nagpur, India to Jairam Gadkari and Bhanutai Gadkari.

During his teens, he worked for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Nitin Gadkari Family

The Gadkaris were a Deshastha Brahmin family of modest means, with some agricultural land in Dhapewada village, near Nagpur. They lived in an area of old Nagpur called Mahal, close to the RSS’s headquarters.

Gadkari ran a modest furniture shop in partnership with a friend.

In after 1984, Nitin Gadkari married Kanchan Gadkari and they have three children, Nikhil, Sarang and Ketki. His eldest son Nikhil is married to Rutuja Pathak and Sarang Gadkari is married to Madhura Rodi.

His Mother was an influential RSS veteran who served as an organising secretary of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner to the BJP, in Nagpur during the 1960s, told me he remembers seeing a five-year-old Gadkari at party meetings with his mother, a party worker.

Later in 1980, Gadkari joined its youth wing, the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha, and became its president for Nagpur.
After that, Party appointed him the secretary of the BJP’s Nagpur unit.

Through these early years, Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Gangadhar Rao Fadnavis mentored Gadkari. Gangadhar Rao Fadnav is the father of Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra.

Later he won it in 1989, aged 31, and became the youngest member of the state’s upper house. From there he played it safe, recontesting and retaining the same seat four times, until 2014.

He completed M.Com. and L.L.B. from University of Nagpur.

Nitin Gadkari Minister

Nitin Gadkari served as the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) of the Government of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 and restructured it from top to bottom. He has served as the president of the Maharashtra BJP.

As PWD Minister of Maharashtra, Gadkari played a crucial rule in expediting the construction of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. He built the highway in a little over 2 years.

Later Gadkari became the Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India in May 2014. Out of the stalled projects he inherited, projects worth ₹1 trillion (US$14 billion) were terminated and others worth ₹350 billion (US$4.9 billion) were put up for rebidding.

Soon he increased the pace of road creation in the country from 2 km/day to 16.5 km/day in his first year and to 21 km/day in the second year.

He reserved an amount of one percent of the total projects awarded in his tenure worth ₹2 trillion (US$28 billion) for trees and beautification.
